Frequently Asked Questions
Who picks the Daily Buzzword?
We have a team of five editors who choose, write, and edit the Daily Buzzword. At the end of each month, we choose which words we will use in the coming month. Then each editor writes one or two Daily Buzzword pieces each week. After the writers finish, an editor checks all of the Buzzwords and prepares them for posting on Word Central and for e-mailing to you.

How do you decide which words to use?
We try to pick words that we think are interesting, fun, and useful (especially for getting better grades on vocabulary or spelling tests!). Sometimes we pick words that students or teachers have suggested to us and sometimes we just pick words that we like.

How long does it take to write each Daily Buzzword?
That varies from word to word, but on average it takes 2-3 hours to research, write, edit, format, and post each Daily Buzzword piece.

Can I suggest a word to be a Daily Buzzword?
Sure. Just e-mail your suggestion to buzzword@merriam-webster.com. We can't guarantee we will use it, but we'll consider it.
