It adds some citrus flavor and more sugar. This is very close to the Pioneer Woman apple dumpling recipe; she has you peel and core the apples, adds vanilla, and sprinkles cinnamon on top instead of mixing it in with the butter and sugar. They're kind of ridiculously yummy. Here's the link; it has photos of each step of the way.

You can replace the Mountain Dew with more sugar, some water, and a little lemon juice if you wish. It's surprisingly tasty, though!

Sounds good but would be better next fall when the weather turns cooler. Today I am NOT interested in turning on my oven. It is hotter than hell here!

I don't care for Mt. Dew either but LOVE this recipe. You don't even taste the DEW when it's baked. I think it would not taste as good with 7-up. Everyone i;ve shared this with really likes it. FYI- it's very sweet.....but oh-so-good!

For anyone who has made this before, I would like to try this recipe. Is it correct to pour the Mountain Dew on last? It would seem that it would wash off the butter and sugar. Can someone respond? I was thinking maybe to switch that around.

I would use a lemon-lime soda instead because of the caffeine in the Mountain Dew.
