We have made this special Grilled Cheese Sandwich for years. It comes in real handy to just mix it up and keep in the fridge for whenever you feel like having a sandwich. Serve some sliced tomatoes alongside and maybe a salad and you have a wonderful, quick and yummy supper. Enjoy.....
Ingredients
3 ounces cream cheese, softened
1/4 cup mayonnaise
1 cup cheddar cheese, shredded
1 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/4 tsp seasoned salt
French or Italian bread, sliced 1/2 inch thick
Directions
Mix cream cheese and mayonnaise. Add garlic powder, salt and cheeses. Chill to meld flavors.
When ready to make sandwiches, butter one side of bread and place in pan. Spread moderately with cheese mixture. Not too thick as it puffs when cooking. Top with another slice of bread and butter outside. Toast lightly over medium heat on each side about 5 minutes or until lightly browned and cheese is melted. Serve immediately.

I tried this recipe . It turned out way too salty. I would not put any of the seasoning salt or garlic in the mix. I really prefer the basic grilled cheese sandwich !

I agree that the basic grilled cheese as you make it (I make them the same way) is best. By the way, wasn't it National Grilled Cheese Day, or something like that the other day?

Little too creamy for me, I'll stick with Jarlsberg cheese.

I wonder how this would work in a sandwich griddle? (It's like a waffle iron.) This sounds fun for a soup and sandwish lunch too.

I'm with you - the may is definitely not needed here - I would simply omit the mayo

Sometimes I do very similar. I put sliced tomato (home-grown are best, of course) on a slice of bread, lay a slice of cheese on top, and toast it in my oven toaster (don't put 2nd slice of bread on top). Pretty good.

it may sound 'involved' (it's not really) but once it is mixed up and stored in fridge - it is really easy to make a sandwich whenever you want....it really is very good!
